The Verandas is an elegant 8500 square foot Victorian Italianate Mansion located in the beautiful Wilmington, NC, Historic District. Only two blocks from the Cape Fear River and the Riverwalk, the Inn is in walking distance to upscale shops, clubs, and fine restaurants. It is a fifteen minute drive to Wrightsville Beach- one of North Carolina's finest ocean beaches!

Originally built in 1853 by Benjamin Beery, the structure suffered extensive fires and water damage in 1992. Boarded up and decaying, the mansion was purchased by its present owners in May, 1995. After extensive demolition, including the removal of more than 80,000 pounds of plaster, 10,000 pounds of radiators, and more than 20 dump trucks of debris, the entire house was stripped down to its studding. A completely new infrastructure of the house was then created with new wiring, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, insulation, and walls. A sprinkler system and emergency lighting systems have been added to insure the ultimate safety of guests!

After more than a year of complete renovation, the mansion was then professionally decorated to provide a professional business atmosphere for the sophisticated executive as well as to provide a comfortable weekend retreat for tourists. English and American antiques as well as traditional furniture were selected to achieve this goal.

Guests are encouraged to socialize in one of the two luxurious parlors, daydream on one of four verandas, meet on the garden terrace, or just linger in the screened-in porch. The more energetic can climb the spiral stairs to the enclosed cupola on top of the house where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the skyline of downtown Wilmington, the Battleship North Carolina, or experience a magnificent sunset from one of the highest points in the historic district.

All eight guest rooms are large corner rooms with state of the art individual climate control. Guests may choose from a selection of king, queen, or twin beds. Cable TV's with VCR's, as well as telephones with computer jacks are standard fare. Luxurious private baths feature marble floors, and oversized oval tubs. Caswell Massey amenities ensure personal comfort.

The Verandas has been awarded Prestigious AAA 4-diamond Ratings. Only 3 percent of the more than 30, 000 annual inspections conducted nationally result in a Four Diamond rating.
